What Parents are Saying

“Jacob has been teaching my son guitar lesson for 10 years now. It has been a pleasure. Jacob is an outstanding teacher and has instilled a love of playing into my son. I have recommend him to many and never been disappointed. He is an outstanding person and we look forward to knowing him for many years to come.”  Gwenn Abrams, student mom

“Jacob has been teaching my son music now for over five years. He teaches Donovan piano and guitar. Jacob has a soft and mellow nature which help the lessons flow in a positive way. He teaches the core fundamentals that help make the knowledge on how to read and play music, a success, while also letting Donovan bring in the songs he wants to play. Jacob has also taught Donovan how to restring his guitar as well as minor repairs. Donovan also enjoys the workshops that Jacob has a few times a year with all the kids. Donovan is now a teenager and still looks forward to his weekly lessons. Thanks to Jacob, Donovan has a bright future for the art, worth every dime!”  Nicole Quant, student mom

My music teaching philosophy

I strongly believe in working on a case by case basis with each student to achieve his or her goals on their chosen instrument or music in general. I don’t have an agenda and want to help you enrich your life through music. I want you to be able to pick a piece of music and either read it or play it by ear as well as work through it intelligently and eventually on your own.

Background

I come from a long line of musicians and entertainers. My grandfather and his brothers and sisters all played/performed as well as composed music professionally. My aunt and uncle were singers and dancers as well as directors on broadway so I grew up with music as a big part of my childhood. From an early age I taught myself piano and guitar and then studied music and received a scholarship from Orange Coast College in what was at that time their studio guitar program. After graduating from OCC I started playing music professionally with a singer/songwriter named Matt Costa. We toured all through the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, NewZealand and were lucky to share the stage with such acts as Jack Johnson, Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse, Black Keys, as well as many others. I have always taught music since I was 18 and it came very natural to me. Now with over 20 years experience as a teacher I am very confident I can help you or your child achieve the goals you dream of.
